A jig dyeing machine (See Figs. 09 and 70) consists of adye vat D, and two fixed rollers A and B, worked by a series ofgears. At the beginning of the operation the cloth to be dyed issmoothly wound upon one of the fixed rollers A, and then passedthrough the dye vat in the direction indicated by the arrowheadonto the second fixed roller B. The cloth is then passed throughthe dye liquor back on to A, and so on back and forth until thedyeing is completed. At the end of the operation the cloth iswound onto the movable roll C, which sets into the slotted uprightE. Ten to fifteen pieces of cloth are sewn together in a continu-ous piece and passed through the dye liquor at the rate of aboutone minute per piece. The vat portion D should be as small aspossible, and usually holds from thirty-five to forty-five gallonsof liquor. Cotton warps are uusually dyed in a machine similar to thatrepres
